There are four options for the “Day of” schedule. Each option comes with advantages or differences. You choose what works for you and fits in with the venue requirements.
Option one – Pictures taken, Ceremony and then Reception location
The advantages of this order:
- There is less down time for the guests between the ceremony and reception.
- You will not have the expense of cocktail or entertainment hours.
- You can have your first look – just as dramatic/emotional however without the nerves of the ceremony.
- You are fresh for photographs.
- Also, if you are having a special ceremony (tea) it can be slotted at this time.

Option two – Ceremony, Pictures taken and the Reception location
The advantages of this order:
- If the ceremony venue is at a different location than the reception venue it gives the guests extra time to travel and perhaps refresh
- It gives time for entertainment and cocktail hours for the guests to mingle
- The same people doing the set-up and tear-down of the ceremony can also do the set-up and take-down of the reception.
Option three – Ceremony & Reception at same location
The advantages of this order:
- There is no travel for everyone between the ceremony and reception
- You can decide when and where you want the pictures taken that suit your wishes and style.
- Your set-up time can be done in the morning by the same person.
- You have less to deal with – which keeps the stress level down.
Option four – Customized
The advantages of this:
- Each wedding is unique and sometimes requires customization that applies to the “Day of” schedule. Nothing is “cookie cutter”.
- Events/Parts can be scheduled over several days.
- Location can be a destination where the honeymoon completes the stay.
- Or a special location where the guests are accommodated and entertained.
Tip/advice – you want your guests to have an enjoyable time at your wedding.
Certain considerations:
- That they be informed of what is expected
- That they have a safe and fun environment
- That they are thanked for being there.
Your guests (the people that bring the most meaning and future memories) help celebrate this new step in your lives.
