You are engaged – now what? Enjoy the excitement. You are tempted to post your new status with a picture on Facebook however stop!  Find out first “what is important to you” – remembering it is you both, together, that are making your future – not your friends, parents or you are individually.

Now as an official couple talk before you talk to anyone.  Discuss and write down your game plan.

  1. Wedding date – when you want to get married. Sometimes the date may have to be altered due to availability of venue for the ceremony or reception.
  2. Vision/Theme – what you want as a couple to be on your day.
  3. Priorities (Top Five) List – both make a list on your own, then compare and come to a decision.
  4. Outstanding/memorable – moments from other weddings you attended or heard about that you thought were outstanding/memorable.
  5. Poorly planned/organized – moments from other weddings attended or heard about that you didn’t enjoy/don’t want at your wedding.
  6. Make memorable – what do you want your guests to remember after your wedding.
  7. Biggest fears/obstacles – when thinking of planning your wedding.

There are more elements than the questions above before telling everyone.

  1. When: year, month and date
  2. Where: setting
  3. What: Kind of ceremony and reception
  4. How: Budget
  5. Who: Guest count

Who to listen to?

People are excited for you and want you to share your plans.

Tip/Advice:  When friends/family say you “must have” or “must do” it is their opinion, value, or taste. If not yours, a simple “thank you for your input” is all that needs to be said.
